MiniSection - The Intelligent 4-Way Stop
Traditional intersections which employ traffic signal controllers represent a segment of IntelliSection technology but
are not the singular deployment within the MetroTech Net. There also exists a need for IntelliSection technology for
less sophisticated intersections along the corridor. Unintelligent intersections can be defined as 4-way stops,
school bus stops, and entrance ways to subdivisions, mall parking lots, and sporting arenas where traffic signals
do not exist.
By deploying fixed cameras which provide digital video analytics, a single PTZ for surveillance, and wireless mesh
transmitters at these locations they become, by default, IntelliSections. These intelligent mechanisms will immediately
begin to provide the TMC with traffic related information where none existed before. As IntelliSections go online the
MetroTech Net begins to deliver events and alerts such as incomplete stop by a vehicle, speeding vehicles, pedestrian
activities which pose a safety risk, etc. The importance of non-signaled intersection information becomes more evident
as the corridor impact analysis reflects traffic data that never existed before.
